Oak Park Walks to Raise Awareness for Childhood Cancer

At 10 A.M. on Oct. 3, students and teachers marched out of Oak Park Elementary School in a parade of gold shirts, signs, and ribbons. The group made their way around the perimeter of the school property in an effort to raise awareness for childhood cancer while songs of support played over the intercom system.

Students from each class at the school collaborated on a large sign showing support for those fighting against cancer while others had individual signs that they all held up on the walk. The initiative is dedicated to Ms. Miller, one of Oak Park's own special education teachers who has faced adversity in her own family with childhood cancer in the past.

Oak Park raised $1700 for Sunrise Day Camp of Long Island, a summer camp specifically for children and their families who are coping with the disease.
